Teaching Scouts to be involved in and give back to their community is the heart of what we do. Throughout the Scout year, Pack 84 will be invited to participate in community events in Sherman, and we will seek out ways for our Scouts to engage in community service through collections & donations, participating in community clean ups, and learning about the services that are provided by organizations in our town. Upcoming community service events include:
Operation Christmas Child: collecting items to put in a shoebox provided by the Sherman Congregational Church. Organized by Samaritans Purse, the shoeboxes typically include a fun toy, and essentials like toothbrushes/paste, soap, pencils/pens/crayons, paper, socks, and other items a child would need or enjoy. These boxes are shipped to countries across the world to children who may not receive a Christmas present otherwise, and likely can’t afford even basic necessities.
Veterans Day Ceremony: hosted at the Sherman School, the Sherman Veterans Association, Pack 84, Troop 48, and the Sherman School participate in a ceremony honoring our towns Veterans. Scouts will wear their uniforms to school and actively participate throughout the ceremony.
Collect for Vets: Pack 84 will hold a two week drive to collect items most requested by the VA Medical Center in East Haven. Scouts will learn about the importance of collecting these items and see for themselves the joy it brings to hospitalized Veterans.
Senior Luncheon: Back again for the first time since COVID shut everything down, the Sherman School hosts the town’s senior citizens in Nov for a luncheon. Pack 84 will put together a goodie bag filled with treats and other items that will be provided to the seniors to take home with them. It is a great tradition that the seniors in our town greatly appreciate.
Keep checking back for more community service events. Each month, the Scouts will participate in at least one community service effort.
